Professional Biography

Susie Wee is the SVP & CTO of DevNet at Cisco Systems. She is the co-founder and leader of Cisco DevNet, Cisco’s developer and innovation program which provides resources for application developers and IT professionals to build solutions using Cisco’s platforms and APIs. DevNet is driving the industry transition where applications meet infrastructure. Prior to this, Susie was the VP & Chief Technology and Experience Officer of Cisco’s Collaboration Technology Group where she was responsible for driving innovation and experience design in Cisco’s collaboration products and services, including unified communications, telepresence, web and video conferencing, and cloud collaboration.

Prior to this, Susie had a 15 year career at Hewlett Packard. She was the CTO of Client Cloud Services for HP’s Personal Systems Group and the founding VP of the Experience Software Business which created software for HP’s PC products and grew the business to span 4 product lines in 1.5 years. Susie was the director of the HP Labs Mobile and Media Systems Lab with research in user experience, streaming media, networking, vision & graphics, security, and mobility.

Susie was the co-editor of the JPSEC standard for JPEG-2000 image security and the JPSEC amendment on File Format Security. She was formerly associate editor for the IEEE Trans. on Circuits, Systems, and Video Technology and IEEE Trans. on Image Processing. She was a consulting asst. professor at Stanford University where she co-taught a graduate course on digital video processing.

Susie received Technology Review’s Top 100 Young Innovators award in 2002, ComputerWorld’s Top 40 Innovators under 40 award in 2007, the INCITs Technical Excellence award in 2007, the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame award in 2010, the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women list in 2012, and the Red Dot Design Concept award for augmented collaboration in 2015. She is an IEEE Fellow for her contributions in multimedia technology and has over 50 international publications and over 50 granted patents. Susie received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Personal Biography

Susie was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in Batavia, New York. She went to college at MIT and stayed for 10 years, earning degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and playing sports, including soccer, lacrosse, and ice hockey. She was on the MIT women’s ice hockey team for all 10 years, advancing from the worst player on the team, to a bench warmer, to a starter, to a captain, and finally to an assistant coach, making a contribution to the team at every level. Her professional leadership style reflects her learnings from team sports. Susie is married to John Apostolopoulos and they have an energetic 4.5 year old daughter, Mia Athena. They live with in Palo Alto, California.
